With this tool you can:

  • Create and display tracks, routes and waypoints
  • Transfer waypoints, routes and tracks from/to your GPS device (see below "Supported devices")
  • Import Tracks, Waypoints and Routes from GPX, PCX5, OziExplorer or Google Map (KML)
  • Track processor for reducing track points (active log, KML imports)
  • Online GPS shows current position and direction in WW (NMEA over RS232 and also with Garmin USB and RS232/serial)
  • Up- and download tracks, routes and waypoints from/to all Garmin devices (USB and RS232/serial)
  • Follow tracks in WW like with a helicopter (Scripts)
  • Use a compatible database with Touratech QuoVadis (www.ttqv.com)
  • Display bitmap files (JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF,...) as maps in WorldWind as overlay (scanned maps)
  • ...

There is no need to have a GPS device, to use this plug in with World Wind.

You need World Wind 1.4.0 or newer to work with this plugin.

Download

Download the newest full file (MSI-Setup) version 0.9.44 (16.03.2009, 531k).

If you have already installed the previous version, please uninstall it first.

If you need GPX files for testing, you can download them here. If you have problems to import your own GPX files, send them to me at info@kaufi.ch.

Installation

  1. First you have to install World Wind, if it's not already installed.
  2. Download full file (see above), extract the content and run the setup.exe.
  3. Follow the setup wizard. Enter the Worldwind program directory path as install path.
  4. Start World Wind and load the plugin in the menu {Plug-Ins},{Load/Unload}
  5. If the plugin is loaded, you find a new menu {GPS2WordlWind} item in the {Tools} menu
  6. Create a new database in GPS2WorldWind or open a existing database in which all traks, waypoints or routes can be stored

Supported GPS devices

The following devices are tested with GPS2WorldWind to send or receive datas from/to these devices.

Now all Garmin USB and RS232/Serial devices are supported. Real USB devices have a USB connector. If you use a USB/RS323-Converter cable, you use the serial connection. If you use serial devices, set the protocol on your GPS device to "Garmin in/out".
